SyFy's 'Sharknado' getting sequel, and you can name it

By Tim Molloy

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - "Sharknado" is getting a 2014 sequel, and SyFy announced a contest to name it.

Hmm... how about "Sharknado 2"? That's the current working title, because it's hard to improve on "Sharknado."

In the new film (huge spoiler alert), the flying sharks will attack New York City. Insert Manhattan lawyer joke here.

Since the old, classic "Sharknado" of last week became such a social media phenomenon, SyFy will hold its naming contest on Twitter.

The new film will again be produced by The Asylum.

"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm - on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel," said Thomas Vitale, executive vice president of programming and original movies for Syfy. "What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."
