Nike via U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Nike won a patent on July 4 for glasses that display the trajectory of a golf ball after it takes flight. The glasses can also give information about the ball's speed and distance in order to help golfers select the proper club for future shots.
Golfer Rory McIlroy has struggled since signing a lucrative endorsement deal with Nike. Critics have blamed his Nike equipment.
Those criticisms might be short-lived.
On Tuesday, Nike will host an event at its Washington County headquarters to unveil a "series of new innovations."
In advance of the meeting, I dug through Nike's recent patent filings. The Fortune 500 company is on pace for an all-time high of nearly 400 patents this year.
Nearly 40 percent relate to golf, more than any other product category.
