Three out of jobs at City Hall

BRIDGEPORT -- Three mid-level employees at City Hall have left their jobs.

Numerous sources in City Hall confirmed Friday that Tom Coble, director of anti-blight and neighborhood revitalization, was fired this week. City officials refused to deny or confirm that he is no longer employed.

Less clear is the status of Arthur Harris, director of construction administration, and Dennis Scinto Jr., contract compliance officer. Although sources confirmed they are no longer in their city jobs, it was not clear whether their suspensions are temporary or permanent.

Coble had been suspended for several weeks pending an investigation into an undisclosed complaint against him and a hearing before the city's Labor Relations Department.

That hearing occurred this week and led to his permanent departure. He was paid $87,000 a year.

Although public and city records indicate Coble lives on Larkey Road in Oxford, a reporter found a vacant, wooded lot there.

Harris, contacted at his Oxford home, on Friday deferred comment on his employment status to the city.

"You'd have to talk to them about it," said Harris, whose annual salary is $99,126. "I really have nothing I can say."

Scinto, who lives in Northford, also declined comment. He has an annual salary of $68,289. His father is Dennis Scinto Sr., the city's illegal dumping coordinator and Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee leader for the city's 134th District.

Staff writer John Burgeson contributed to this report.
